About the Masjid
The Islamic Center of DeKalb is the masjid serving DeKalb, Sycamore and
the Northern Illinois University community. Construction of the masjid was completed in
Ramadan 2015.
What we are
ICD holds the five daily prayers and Jumu’ah, teaches Qur’an and Islamic studies
to the children of the community, feeds the neighbourhood in Ramadan, and stands as a place
where anyone — Muslim or not — can walk in and ask a question.
There is a separate prayer space for women, and children are welcome. Parking is on site.
Our community
DeKalb’s Muslim community is unusually mixed: long-settled local families,
Bangladeshi, South Asian, Arab and African households, and a large body of NIU students who
are far from home. The masjid tries to be a home for all of them at once.
Working with IQRA Dawah Center
ICD works alongside the IQRA Dawah Center
at 401 Normal Rd, founded in 2023. Between the two buildings the community runs one programme:
all boys’ Sunday School classes are held here at the masjid, girls’ and kindergarten
classes at IQRA, and in Ramadan the free weekend iftars run as men’s at ICD and
women’s at IQRA.
